Howard W. Fritz (Howie) serves Wayside as a Parish Associate.  A retired Presbyterian (U.S.A.) pastor, his duties include visitation to shut-ins and assisting Pastor Steve when and where needed.

Howie’s ministry began in 1959 when he and his wife, Marion, served as ministers in the Salvation Army.  He graduated from Asbury Theological Seminary with a Bachelor of Divinity degree and went on to receive a Master of Theology degree from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary (Palmer Seminary).  He also graduated from the US Army Chaplains’ School and the Staff and Command College.

Howie served thirty-one years (7 ½ active and 24 reserve) as a Chaplain in the United States Army, retiring with the rank of Colonel.    While on active duty he was stationed at Fort Knox, South Korea and Okinawa.

Leaving active duty, Howie went on to serve Presbyterian Churches in Barrington, NJ, Florence, NJ and Youngstown, OH.  From 1983-1986 he served as pastor of the Seoul Union Church in Seoul, Korea.  Following his retirement, Howie ministered as a supply pastor in four churches in Pennsylvania and a retirement home chaplain.

Howie and his wife of 56 years share a home with their son, Pastor Steve, and his family. He enjoys water exercise,   reading,  and travel, but most of all, visiting with his  five children, their spouses,  fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandson.
